Las Vegas International Celtic Festival
International Celtic Festival - (April annually)
Celtic traditions are taken very seriously in the US, in fact one might say even more so than in Ireland and Scotland. Whereas St. Patrick's Day may be an opportunity to hit thepub early in Europe, in the US, it is a full-blown event where everyone is expected to wear green.
Las Vegas International Celtic Festival
In this tradition, each year Las Vegas hosts Las Vegas International Celtic Festival inApril, where over three days parades and
celebrations of Celtic culture are held. Parades play a big part in the festival with all four branches of the US military performing a series of tattoos and marches. There are also ceremonial displays and demonstrations of structured marches.
The Festival also sees Highland Games, which are part of the event and coincidentally held at the same times as the annual Las Vegas Celtic Gathering & Highland Games. As you'd expect, there is plenty of caber tossing, hammer throwing, dancing and drinking as well as lots and lots of kilts.
The festival attracts thousands of people each year, and not just those from Scotland and Ireland. Vegas Celtic Festival allows those of every origin to enjoy the cultural delights and games that go with Celtic traditions. (Learn more about Dublin Ireland Celtic culture)
As well as the Highland Games and various military tattoos, the Festival will also host the Pipe Band Championships, which sees the nation's premier bagpipe players compete in a series of rounds. There is also a local golf tournament, a number of pub crawls (as per Celtic tradition), streets parties and a series of Céilidhs.
The festival is an ideal way to experience local Irish food and drink while enjoying the sights and sounds of hundreds of pipers marching through Las Vegas together.
