Anyone who has ever played a hand of poker will understand the excitement that can be generated in this game. This interest and enthusiasm is magnified to incredible proportions when it comes to one of the world’s biggest poker tournaments, the World Series of Poker.

The World Series of Poker, familiarly known as the WSOP provides skilled poker players a chance to show their mettle in a world class poker competition. Although it is not an 
official title, the winner of the Main Event of the WSOP is considered to be the world champion in poker. The winner of the World Series of Poker gets a gold bracelet and wins large monetary prizes.
The WSOP was once held at Binion’s in Las Vegas, but this tournament is now organised by Harrah’s Entertainment Inc. The venue for the World Series of Poker since 2005 has been the Rio All Suite Hotel and Casino on West Flamingo Road in Las Vegas.
Any player can enter the WSOP as all it requires is a buy in. Only the finest players make it to the Main Event, and it is the best of these that play at the final table and get a share of the substantial winnings to be earned at the WSOP. There are strict rules and guidelines laid down for participants in the WSOP, including a code of conduct for players.
