Death Valley is the largest national park in the United States. Situated on the borders of Nevada and California and covering 3.4 million acres of desert, Death Valley has had its current name since 1849, when it was frequented by innumerable adventurers and travellers who tried making their way through the desert, in an effort to establish a shorter route to the gold fields. The name Death Valley is derived from the many among them who never made it past the desert.
Because of its unique ecological system, the plants and shrubbery in this area are an amazing mix of colours and hues that are completely in contrast with the blazing 
temperatures and otherwise stark scenery.
It is important to remember that Death Valley has extremely hot weather almost all the year round, except for the winter, when the weather can get considerably milder. Visitors are advised to schedule their trips to Death Valley during the early hours of the morning to escape the heat should they be making a trip to Vegas during the summer.
Some of the more popular events and attractions that Death Valley is home to include the annual Badwater to Mount Whitney Ultra Marathon, which sets a gruelling course for itself and its participants, as well as the Death Valley 49’ers encampment.
Death Valley National Park is open to tourists all year round. There is an entrance fee which the park authorities use for regular park improvements. The entrance fee is payable at all visitor centres and self-service machines. Depending on the time of year that you might be planning your visit, advanced bookings might be a good idea.
The park has a café, steak-house and a restaurant called the Furnace Creek Inn. Remember to carry sufficient water and have your car serviced before the journey.
