Red Rock Canyon gets its name from its red rocks, which have rusted over the course of millions of years and now have a red and orange hue. The Canyon is also a protected national site and has been declared a National Conservation area.
One of the biggest attractions of the canyon is Keystone Thrust, an impressive display of enormous, red sandstone peaks and walls that extend as high as three thousand feet
and as a result rock climbing enthusiasts love using Keystone Thrust as a destination to practice climbing. La Madre is the highest point within Keystone Thrust, standing tall atan impressive eight thousand, one hundred and fifty four feet.
The canyon is home to over six hundred species of plant life including the Joshua tree and the Mojave Yucca. Nature lovers and animal enthusiasts will find that rabbits and ground squirrels are not hard to spot here, although the Desert Tortoise is the star attraction of the Red Rock Canyon, and is one of the main reasons for the canyon being deemed a conservation area.
